People in Congress prefer to be counseled by their constituents. I sent emails to the Republicans on the Senate Finance Committee regarding Elon and his brats’ attack on the treasury, but received no replies except from Bernie Sanders (not a Republican😊).
The investors will indeed be miffed, to put it mildly.
Excellent presentation of the complexities here and how to focus. I would very much like all those working for the government to be forced to survive on the ACA and Medicare. They wouldn’t be so quick to hand over the assets if they had no health care. And why should they be special after all?
I’m confused. Are you talking about Medicaid or Medicare? Paying into the system belongs to Social Security. Medicaid costs are split between the federal government and the state government, which raises funding through taxes. Medicare is financed through various means. All you need to do is ask Google how each program is financed. Yes, seniors pay for their coverage for Parts A and B, unless they are low income, then they can apply for Extra Help, in which case the federal government pays. But the program doesn’t pay 100% of any bill you get, they only pay for 80%; the rest is up to the person having the procedure. Part D pays for prescriptions. People can find coverage for free; it’s our choice. Part C is paid for by more wealthy people and expands the other coverages.
Your sentiments are worthwhile but you need to get your facts straight. The only program we pay for over the course of our lives is Social Security, and even then people pay for their coverage current people collecting the benefit. SS is not a savings program like a 401k. It was deliberately structured as a pay as you go system because the creators of the program assumed the new generation of workers would be bigger than the current batch of people collecting, but the Baby Boom caused a sizable bubble, and now we are facing a population that is shrinking, not growing. We need to raise the ceiling on who pays into the SS Trust Fund, meaning more money from the super rich. But of course Republicans prefer to starve the program by reducing its benefits rather than making rich people pay more FICA taxes into it to keep it solvent. Also, those immigrants the GOP is so eager to expel contribute in the present to the program they only get to use if they become citizens and retire here.
Thank you for this post. I agree that we need to stay laser focused on Medicaid - which not only helps seniors but babies & children & families.
This ask: “Can we stop calling this person an idiot?” Sorry but hard no. He, the man, is an idiot. His handlers though, Project 2025 authors, Heritage Foundation, McConnell, et al, and other billionaires (Koch brothers, Tech Bros) are not idiots. He stands behind their skirts. He is their useful idiot.
And yet I understand that the largest population that uses Medicaid are the red state Trump voters.
I feel for them in a way - this was in no way part of the Trump campaign. Blue states would make up for Medicaid by setting up their own programmes, but red states probably wouldn't.
I disagree with you on the stupidity of Hippo Don, because he is as dumb as a doorknob. Doesn't mean he's not dangerous. Alligators are dangerous, but they won't be reading Hemingway's last novel anytime soon.
Hippo Don couldn't verbalize the difference between Medicaid and Medicare even if he knew the difference. Yet he will destroy both - partly because he doesn't even know what those programs are about. Because, yes, he is a moron. A malignant moron.
Besides, the people of project 2025 are not stupid. And they're doing the handiwork...
Agree with points… Medicare not Medicaid. “It’s nothing short of stealing from poor Rob to pay rich Peter. “ Correct reference is to rob Peter to pay Paul.
You should be counseling the Dem Party strategists!

I'm in Hawley's district. I might as well be deleting my emails. 😠 Burlison isn't any better.

Excellent analysis and recommendations, as usual.
Excellent post. Thanks for sharing. Now if only the Dems can turn this to their advantage.
Great summary. I can see it.
Cruel, greedy pricks…

Finally, a focused strategy. Don’t let any of the peripheral issues diffuse the focus. One thing at a time.

Just wait. Social Security and MediCare are next, even though Social Security doesn't come out of the general budget.

The Peter reference was switched on purpose.
Please clarify if you are writing about Medicare or Medicaid- two different programs with different funding and rules.
This is where they will go
