Bernie and AOC are on the road in red states - about 8 percent attending on the average are republicans I hear. They will speak to their fellow republicans. One thing - unlike democrats Republicans seldom speak out publicly against themselves. The 30 percent MAGA may be an unbreakable wall but the 88 percent amongst all republicans seems rather exaggerated - not questioning Shanker here.

I strongly disagree. The only way to dislodge people from a cult, is if they are hurting, mentally and/or financially, and decide to leave themselves

And so the only way they can be helped is if they're not helped at all, allowed to self-destruct, and hit rock bottom.

And until they do, Dems must help Dems, and only Dems...

I've been reading your posts for awhile now, for free. They are sooo good that I've been inspired to subscribe, even though I have little money to spare. But you are, IMO a man who grasps the bigger picture and is capable of discriminating the signal from the noise. I look forward to being a more active member of your tribe. With gratitude.

Forgive me. I do not agree on this one. When I saw Newsom trying that he was 100% over for me instantly. Do not chit chat with anti-democracy folks. It is a lost cause. I will bet my life that they are not listening and never will. And neither are their viewers. These people go strictly by their belief systems and feelings. They are not like attorneys. They don’t care about the facts and supporting evidence. And a charm fest does not amount to a hill of beans and it shows. Fox Entertainment is entertainment as are the many podcasters, etc. Their viewers wouldn’t know a fact if it was a snake that bit them. I listen to every word you say, Shankar, and could not respect your work more. I am just giving it to you from my little people focus group perspective. I know folks were thrilled to see Mayor Pete do it, but I would again bet my life that the anti-democracy folks will be unmoved by anyone’s brilliance and poise.

Independent here, Democrats need to embrace the party cleansing endorsed by David Hogg; they need to do it now. Chuck Schumer needs to resign, yesterday!

I firmly believe that the polls are going to hit their lowest point when items start disappearing at the stores and costs for necessaries gets crazy. You have to show people that policy matters. Because the basic maga person is not exceptionally smart , Until maga feels real economic pain and serious continued hardship they won’t budge from their exhallted self damaging positions. Just won’t happen. And it won’t happen fast either. Refusal to be honest admitting having been conned ( in this case for years) is typical for victims of fraud.

From paul krugman a recognized brilliant economist.

We will almost surely see dramatic price increases and empty shelves within weeks, along with the failure of many small businesses that depend on imports, trucking companies and more. A recession later this year looks more likely than not. And there are more shoes to drop: Wait until Social Security starts failing thanks to inadequate staffing and the public becomes aware of the savage Medicaid cuts that are central to G.O.P. budget plans.

Trump and his minions will try to blame other people for their woes, claiming falsely that the Biden economy was terrible and/or that it’s all Jerome Powell’s fault. But I don’t think their whining will play with most Americans. It’s a good bet that Trump’s approval numbers, which have already plunged, will go even lower.

Look, man, this is no surprise. The lines have been drawn for some time now. 55% of the country knows what’s occurring, how bad it is, who’s causing it and why; 45% likes what’s going on regardless of whether it harms them or people who are important to them and whether they know the how or why it’s happening. It’s a war. It’s not yet hot, but it’s getting there. While public opinion has some relevance in the fog of war, it isn’t going to change much at this point unless or until a victor emerges. If, as I suspect, a victor will not emerge, it is going to be important to figure out where one wants to be in the balkanization that has and is taking place in what is quickly becoming a broken republic.

They already have it. They’ve had it for a while. They aren’t my concern. My concern involves the fascist Silicon Valley billionaires that live among us on the left coast and their insidious infiltration and influence to disrupt those who’ve already chosen a side - not their side.

Yeah. Although they don't all live in Silicon Valley. Peter Thiel, Curtis Yarvin and a lot of other tech billionaire influencers have a very broad appeal within that community, most of whom seem to lack basic empathy, fellow feeling and emotional intelligence in general. Ro Khanna, whose district includes Silicon Valley reports that a percentage of tech 'geniuses' in that community imagine the creation of floating cities of techies off the CA coast as refuges from the chaos and suffering that the rest of us will undergo as they implement their self-serving agendas. One small take, Mr. Yarvin has 'joked' about solving the problems represented by povety by turning the poor into biofuel to power his AI farms. Ha ha.

Excellent prescription. And the cutting of Medicare and Medicaid are being discussed. If the prices on pharmaceuticals go up rank and file Rs will start feeling things massively. Some states which are no longer getting FEMA funds for disasters are likely already ticked off. And more and more companies are closing production down in expectation of tariffs. The big wake up call is coming.

There needs to be more open discussion like this to reform and unite the Dem party. Gavon Newsom came to mind - his statements of frustration that the party is "lost" and needs to find itself, but going so far as trying to understand what the GOP is doing that attracts so many voters by interviewing the worst of the worst, was viewed by many with disgust. That's understandable.

I believe the confused state of the Dem party is a product of GOP long-term, successful planning that continually put Dems between a rock and a hard place. Purposely. Citizens United obviously forced Dems to depend on voter donations and be severely underfunded, or seek corporate PAC's and big money. The more that happened, the more beholden they were, which kept drifting the party farther to the right. Fortunately Sanders, Warren and now Alexandria remained clearly the "for the people" party. The DNC was afraid that the socialistic labels from the GOP would render them unelectable. Fear is a destructive force. The DNC labelling them "far-left" extremists splintered the party. Harris actually did an excellent job of bridging the two. I will always think she won the election even with the disenfranchised and non voters. Evidently the corporate owned Dems felt trust in elections was more important than investigating the truth. And now Trump is going after Act Blue. Of course. Harris will come back to a country facing the truth she warned us about. Let's hope she can provide more unifying discussion among Dems. It's gravely needed.
