Who is putting targeting restrictions on Russia? And why? Russia always kills anybody alive and anything - hospitals, schools, markets, housing projects etc.

With no regrets/regards to a human life, Putin may end up in Russia alone - everyone who could ,left and common Russians either killed in the war or because of malnutrition and diseases as food is extremely expensive and medications unavailable.

Now that the US is no longer the main financial contributor to Ukraine, they should not be "calling the shots" (pardon the unintended pun) when it comes to targeting. They should not have done so from the beginning, but that's in the past. In any case, I think Ukraine is increasingly taking charge of its own planning and objectives, regardless of the Trump regime. I have always thought Ukraine could win this war, given the right kind of support. Putin must be SEEN to be defeated, even if he is not "removed".

I think that their argument was that no U.S. weapons should be used in those attacks no matter who pays for them. I don't agree, but that's their argument

The US targeting restrictions have been in place since the Biden administration and were the “genius” of Jake Sullivan. The fear of nuclear retaliation, which has never been credible, is the stated reason. But even more so, nobody in the US nat sec establishment wants Russia to collapse for fear of the unknown or chaos as well as a full employment act for themselves.

Every time this threshold has been crossed (deep strikes using Ukrainian developed weapons, hitting Crimea) has been met with silence. Such strikes not only hurt Russian abilities to wage war, but weaken Putin showing he cannot protect his own people…and may lead the oligarchs to pour him a cup of tea next to a window.

I’ve been saying that for very long time. Quit holding Ukraine back from bombing inside Russia and let them feel some of the pain, or this war will never stop.

I find the drone war confusing. If Ukraine is manufacturing it's own drones and China is pouring drones into Russia. How the can Ukraine keep up with what China provides. What am I missing?

My impression was that Ukraine is acting as if any targeting restrictions have been lifted. Petrochemical plant at Sochi near Putin’s Palace? Attacked. Electronics factory on the outskirts of Moscow? Attacked. FSB base in Bryansk? Hammered.

Yesterday I started reading Jonathan Littell & Antoine D'Agata's "An Inconvenient Place. Jonathan writes and Antoine has photographs their experiences as they walk and explore Babyn Yar and Bucha. Reading this book points out all the reasons Ukraine must succeed and win this war.

Our own military goes all over the world bombing indiscriminately (apartment building, killed civilians, in March 2025 -

targeted to kill one guy I don’t remember where but it was a Hegseth operation).

We are not defending ourselves and we kill people in other countries constantly.

Yes, the question really is, “Why is Ukraine still standing?”

The EU should tell Trump what they are doing...after they do it, so he and his toadys can't interfere. Forget asking for permission, EU.

Ukraine needs to go weapons free over the entirety of Russia. Military facilities, factories, energy production and distribution, transport, anything that helps the Ukranian war effort. Pound Russia into the ground like a stake. No more playtime.

Probably, even today the Americans are still afraid of crossing some vague red line and going too far with their support for Ukraine.

On top of that, I believe strategically they want to leave the burden of support to us Westerners so they can focus on the bigger enemy—the main adversary.

Sometimes I fear that the war has only just begun: an initial phase where the Americans mainly contributed to keeping Ukraine standing and helping us Europeans get back on our feet, only to then pass the ball to us while they turn their attention to China… Meanwhile, coincidentally, Israel is dealing with Iran.

It’s all connected. Everything.
