Will Rogers joked about Democratic disunity about a century ago, it's baked in pretty hard. Republicans pull it off by truly representing the interests of far, far fewer people. Today, that number is down to a handful. Murdoch springs to mind. People aren't falling into line behind Trump, but behind those few, with Trump as part of the machinery. So, yes, I blame, but let's put it at the source.
Just remember anger and blame is part of a grief reaction
We will experience anger sadness bargaining denial and acceptance in a back and forth manner so don’t be alarmed by some initial finger pointing
I personally was furious in retrospect that president Biden chose to run again but when I cooled down later I remember I was happy that he did so at the time
We will all reach acceptance and then coalesce for the good of our kids and future
Of the world as it is unacceptable for decent people to accept this dystopian situation permanently and the more extreme they act the more powerful we will become
And for those who have experienced depression in the past it can be terrifying to feel this bad again but please remember your current emotions will get better as it is grief which will ebb away in time
Please look after yourselves during the grief period:nutrition rehydration friends hugs exercise and rediscover enjoyable things that you have put on hold as we all tried to get the right person elected
I put the blame squarely on American apathy; Republicans; Trump, his family, his team, the Vances, Musk, Bannon, etc (I separate them out because they are not Republicans, just power-hungry shapeshifters); mainstream media dumbing down critical thinking, numbing us all with their coverage of polls, polls, polls and not asking tough questions; Fox News which is an entity by itself like the rags that line the shelves near the check-out counters in grocery stores; foreign interference; Aileen Canons of the justice system; American oligarchs.
The list is longer, but it does not include Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, the campaign, or Democrats — there may have been many degrees of imperfection at multiple times but it is impossible for basically good people to also be perfect.
Destruction is easier, quicker — depending on when we think the American experiment started going awry, it took anywhere from 40 to 10 years only.
What I really fear for the future of America is that it is going to become just like every other country I’ve come from — with the citizenry giving up on political engagement, handing over “politics” to the thugs and the strongmen. Two parallel lanes of society will form — one focused on safe careers, education, survival (or thriving) but steering clear of political opinions, discussions, activism, public or political careers, and leaving the lane of public and political careers only to the thugs who can stomach authoritarianism, corruption, nepotism, and the most vicious back room deals.
We can see this happening already — people so hurt and bewildered that they have unsubscribed from major media sources, are reconsidering grassroots activism, and focusing on themselves. Like in India, Russia. For all its other faults, this was not the America I was awed by when I first came as a grad student 30 years ago. Was there superficiality and consumerism? Yes, but there was also a political awareness about everyday social issues and an ownership of issues and responsible voting every 4 years or 2 years and a lot of volunteerism around it. It is this loss that I fear for.
It is the expulsion of reasonable and fair people’s presence from political dimensions that I mourn. There is an uneasiness in my stomach and a fear that average people like me or my children will have to make choices about which of the two lanes they need to invest their lives in.

I am working everyday Maria. We have hard times ahead. Together us the only way forward.
