This Isn’t a Plane Deal. It’s the Cleanest Bribe You’ll Ever See.
Trump May Walk Away With a Half-Billion-Dollar Jet. Here’s How.
Qatar has made its offer—a $400 million jet, once part of their state fleet, now conveniently available as a “gift” to the United States. But everyone knows who the real recipient is.
The new Air Force One program is already years behind schedule. The first aircraft isn’t expected before 2027, the second in 2028. For a moment, I thought Trump might at least try to justify Qatar’s gift. Maybe he’d point to the endless delays with the Air Force One program, blame government incompetence, and suggest—why not just take the Qatar jet in the meantime?
He started there. But now? He’s not even pretending to defend it. He’s playing it cool, indifferent. That’s what total control over the Republican Party buys you.
Oddly, a few GOP senators are pushing back. I’m not entirely sure why—it’s not as if corruption unfolding in plain sight is anything new. But let’s not kid ourselves: this isn’t diplomacy; it’s corruption at the highest level.
And even if the deal goes through, the jet won’t be ready anytime soon. This isn’t just about swapping out the interior or slapping on a new coat of paint. It takes years to install the hardened communications systems, nuclear command capabilities, and defensive technologies that make Air Force One more than just a private jet.
By the time all that’s done, Trump will be nearing the end of his second term. And then he walks away… with the plane.
Of course, Qatar knows this. And so does Trump. This isn’t a diplomatic gesture to the United States. It’s a direct gift to him.
And why exactly is Qatar doing it? Simple.
The Gulf has its own power games, and Qatar plays them well. Relations between Qatar and Saudi Arabia remain tense beneath the surface, despite the formal end of the Saudi-led blockade in 2021. That blockade—which cut off Qatar’s trade routes and airspace for nearly four years—was a direct attempt by Riyadh to force Qatar into submission. It failed, but it left a mark.
Now, with Trump’s deep personal and financial ties to Mohammed bin Salman and the Saudi state—$2 billion of post-office investments into Jared Kushner’s fund being the most visible example—Qatar understands exactly where future U.S. favor could tilt.
So, how do you counter the growing personal relationship between MBS and the Trump family?
You pump oil money directly into Trump’s hands.
Perfect.
Even MAGA world isn’t fully on board with this one. Qatar’s links to Hamas and its antagonism toward Israel have triggered a backlash among Trump’s own base. MAGA loyalist Laura Loomer—who’s been actively shaping Trump’s foreign policy by purging insufficiently loyal staffers from the White House National Security Council—was one of the first to slam the deal.
Podcaster Ben Shapiro followed quickly, warning on his show: “Taking sacks and goodies from people who support Hamas, the Muslim Brotherhood, Al Jazeera—all the rest—that isn’t ‘America First.’”
So yes, there’s an opening. A real one.
Democrats don’t need to overthink this. They don’t need to run focus groups or chase some elusive messaging. They just need to call this what it is—corruption, plain and simple. A foreign government is attempting to buy direct influence with a president using a half-billion-dollar bribe disguised as diplomacy.
“This isn’t a good idea even if the plane was being donated to the U.S. government. But Trump GETS TO KEEP THE PLANE???” Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) said. “It’s simply a cash payment to Trump in exchange for favors.
Just wildly illegal.”
Take that message to the people. Hammer it relentlessly. This isn’t some abstract policy debate. It’s Corruption 101—one of those rare, easy things that will stick.
If they can’t win this fight, they’re not really trying.
“Oddly, a few GOP senators are pushing back. I’m not entirely sure why—it’s not as if corruption unfolding in plain sight is anything new. But let’s not kid ourselves: this isn’t diplomacy; it’s corruption at the highest level.”
Shankar, while I agree with you on every level, this is par for the course, and not worth discussing anymore because MAGA is the party of projection!
For four years, all we heard about was Hunter’s laptop, Burisma, and some $6 million in payoffs from China; ad nauseam!
Yet, the DOJ says this $400 million plane is okay because Trump isn’t getting anything for it. I might add that even if Hunter was guilty of everything they said, he never held a government position to do any favors for anyone, while Trump and his family, including Kushner have made off like bandits.
$1 billion from Qatar for 666 Fifth Ave, $2 billion from Saudi Arabia for a Private Equity investment, Trump’s crypto scheme and fake media company, not to mention the 30 odd deals Trump just cemented with SA, UAE, and Qatar worth tens of billions.
Furthermore, in Congressional hearing after Congressional hearing, including D-picks, if you can believe it, all we heard was how corrupt the Biden family Enterprise was, even though most of the witnesses were criminals, or refuted their own initial testimonies.
Apparently, we have been schooled in the “theatre of the Absurd” for the last four years! Bottom line, It’s all just a spectacle and a waste of time; all Pomp and no circumstance!
Furthermore, before that, it was Hillary’s emails, Obama’s birth certificate, and Bill’s impeachment for having a consensual affair with an intern, and lying about it! All of which would be entertaining enough, if not for most of it being completely false, blown out of proportion, or completely fabricated.
Einstein once said, “the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over again and expecting a different result.”
Well that’s exactly what these religious fascists and MAGA geniuses have done; throwing the same crap against the wall when democrats are in power, and hoping to get enough of it to stick.
It’s been a very effective policy, and the reason the inmates have taken over the asylum. Apparently insanity works in American politics today. Other than that, I’m completely stumped!…:)
That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it!…:)
But, but... Hunter Biden!
It is the false equivalence I detest most...
