The MAGA GOP’s attack on Medicaid is already underway—long before they push their Billionaire Tax Break bill.
The Medicaid continuous enrollment provision, which guaranteed uninterrupted coverage during the COVID-19 pandemic, ended in March 2023. Since then, millions have lost coverage as states resumed their eligibility reviews, leading to mass disenrollments.

Governor Mike DeWine’s new budget includes a provision that would immediately terminate Medicaid coverage for those enrolled through the expansion program if the federal government reduces its funding below 90% of current levels.
The GOP House is gearing up to slash Medicaid expansion funding. If that happens, DeWine’s policy will strip healthcare from hundreds of thousands of Ohioans. The state budget is still under negotiation—meaning there’s still a chance to fight back. If Democrats act now, they can stop GOP-led states from gutting Medicaid and push their own governors to step up and protect the vulnerable.
It’s a simple plan—and it will work if Democrats take action. In the 2024 House elections, Americans nearly split their vote down the middle.
