MAGA’s Deadly Legacy: First COVID, Now Measles

There’s something uniquely cruel about the MAGA political class and the bottom feeders who make their living inside that ecosystem. Sure, they share the authoritarian instincts of political movements that rose before the Second World War. But even those dark chapters of history rarely held their own followers in such open contempt—as disposable objects to be fooled, drained, and discarded, even at the cost of their lives.

That’s exactly what the MAGA elite did during COVID.

Remember the man who pushed hydroxychloroquine as a magic cure while his underlings hawked ivermectin like it was holy water? Remember the politician who wanted to dump the most preeminent scientist America ever produced—Dr. Anthony Fauci—into the Potomac?

Masks were tyranny. Vaccines were a deep-state conspiracy. And who can forget the podcasters who turned this madness into million-dollar empires, selling distrust and snake oil to anyone desperate enough to listen?

They all knew exactly what they were doing. Some chased power, others chased profit—but it’s their own supporters, and the truly gullible, who are now paying the price.

And now, years later, the bill has come due—not in dollars, but in the suffering of children. Measles, a disease we had nearly erased from the American landscape, is back. Over a thousand cases and counting. Hospital beds filled with children burning with fever, their small bodies covered in rashes, struggling through a sickness they should never have faced.

This isn’t some distant tragedy playing out beyond our sight. It’s happening right here, in the richest, most medically advanced nation on Earth—the one that broke records to develop COVID vaccines and may well have saved the world through its scientific brilliance.

Here’s where we stand right now:

• The U.S. has surpassed 1,000 measles cases this year, marking only the second time in 30 years this threshold has been reached.

• Outbreaks are surging in states and communities with the lowest vaccination rates, particularly in areas where anti-vaccine rhetoric has been most prevalent.

• Children under five comprise about a third of all cases, many too young to receive the full course of vaccinations, leaving them defenseless due to the choices of adults around them.

And yet, those same political hucksters haven’t paused for a breath. They’re out there right now—on cable news, behind microphones, on rally stages—blaming anyone and anything but themselves. They dress it up as “parental rights,” as if a parent’s right to believe some social media lie, peddled by a MAGA grifter, should outweigh a child’s right to live.

Let’s stop pretending this is about freedom. It’s about grift. It’s about power. And it’s time we finally call it what it really is: a betrayal of the most vulnerable among us.

Because here’s the truth that doesn’t need a podcast, a cable news chyron, or a political rally to sell it:

They saved our grandparents from polio. They saved our parents from smallpox. And they can save our children from measles—if only we have the courage to turn away from the conmen and charlatans, and back toward science, compassion, and basic common sense.

Our kids don’t have to suffer for the lies of the reckless or the ambitions of the power-hungry. Science is not the enemy. Truth is not tyranny. And every child deserves a life free from diseases we already know how to prevent.

It’s time to choose reality over rhetoric. It’s time to stand for our children. And it’s long past time we admit what we all know deep down—vaccines save lives, and no child should ever have to pay the price for an adult’s ignorance.
